As qualified professionals, we are committed to setting the highest standards and provide a calm, friendly environment for veterinary rehabilitation.
We focus on keeping up to date with current practice and will use therapeutic handling and positive behavioural modification to create the most comfortable and effective approach to your pets treatment.
What is hydrotherapy?
Hydrotherapy is a therapeutic exercise carried out in warm water. The buoyancy and resistance of the water help to reduce the strain on joints while encouraging controlled movement and muscle strengthening.
How can hydrotherapy help my pet?
Hydrotherapy can:
Improve mobility and joint flexibility
Strengthen muscles without overloading joints
Support recovery after surgery or injury
Manage pain and stiffness in conditions like arthritis
Aid weight management and general fitness
Improve confidence and wellbeing through gentle exercise
What happens during a hydrotherapy session?
Your pet’s first session includes an initial assessment. This allows our team to review your pet’s history, discuss your vet’s recommendations, and introduce your pet to the hydrotherapy environment at their own pace.
Each session is carefully tailored to your pet’s individual needs. A typical appointment includes time for handling, preparation, exercise in the hydrotherapy treadmill or pool, and a cool-down period.
Who carries out the sessions?
All sessions are run by qualified hydrotherapists and veterinary nurses who are experienced in animal rehabilitation and welfare. We always work closely with your veterinary surgeon to ensure treatment is appropriate and safe.
What conditions can hydrotherapy help with?
Hydrotherapy can benefit pets with:
Orthopaedic or neurological conditions
Pre- and post-operative rehabilitation
Recovery from injury or trauma
Arthritis or joint stiffness
Weight management and obesity
Growth or developmental conditions
General fitness and conditioning for working or performance dogs
Will my pet enjoy hydrotherapy?
Most pets adapt very well once they feel comfortable. We use calm handling techniques and positive reinforcement to make each visit a relaxed and enjoyable experience.
How long are the sessions?
Your pet’s first session may take up to 90 minutes to allow time for assessment and introduction. Follow-up sessions are typically around 45–60 minutes, depending on your pet’s progress and treatment plan.
Do I need a referral from my vet?
Yes. Hydrotherapy is a clinical treatment, and we require a referral or consent form from your veterinary surgeon before starting therapy. This ensures that the programme is safe and appropriate for your pet’s medical needs.
